Beach Replenishment Update
On Tuesday, July 29th, Slaughter Beach hosted (at Memorial Fire Company) a consortium of representatives from The US Army Corps of Engineers, as well as DNREC to hold a roundtable discussion of an upcoming, planned project. The discussion was followed by a lovely lunch sponsored by Slaughter Beach for all attendees.
The project discussed and announced, is the beginning of a beach replenishment project for the first 3 beaches targeted within the longstanding study of the beneficial use of dredged material from the Delaware Bay shipping channel.
Many members of the BBA (Bay Beach Association) as well as community members from those communities all attended. Over 100 people attended and heard how and when the first phase of this project is to be implemented, as well as other details of the project.
Slaughter Beach, Kitts Hummick and Pickering Beach are the first beaches for this planned replenishment and it is slated for fall of 2026 to begin.
This is an incredible project that has been worked on by countless Towns, Associations and individuals.
The Town of Slaughter Beach wishes to thank the Army Corps, DNREC, The Bay Beach Association and numerous individuals who all have helped make this a future reality. A very special thanks should go out to former Sr US Senator from the great state of Delaware, Thomas Carper. Without his and his staff’s (especially John Kane) support, this project would not have been initiated nor implemented.
