Another Successful Coastal Cleanup at Slaughter Beach
On September 13th, Slaughter Beach saw a great turnout of over 80 people all here to help keep our beach clean.
Once again DNREC sponsored Coastal Cleanup in Delaware and assisted us in picking up over 200 pounds of trash along our shoreline.
Special thanks to the volunteer groups from both Dover Air-Force Base and those from the University of Delaware which both had large groups here to assist.
I know many of us walk and clean the beach every week, but this effort highlights the need for all of us to maintain our beach in as pristine a condition as possible.
Remember when enjoying the beach please leave nothing behind but your foot prints.
USACE and DNREC Sign Agreement for Bayshore Beaches
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Philadelphia District has signed a design agreement with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) for the Delaware Beneficial Use of Dredged Material (BUDM) for the Delaware River, Philadelphia to Sea Project, also known as the “Delaware Bayshore BUDM Project.” To read more about the project visit USACE and DNREC Sign Agreement for Bayshore Beaches – State of Delaware News

July 6, 2024, has been cancelled
The Town of Slaughter Beach Election scheduled for Saturday, July 6, 2024, has been cancelled. As of the filing deadline of May 31, 2024, three candidates have filed for three open seats making no election necessary.
The following three candidates have successfully filed for three open town council seats
Benjamin Monastero
Joanne Plescia
Robert Wood
Each seat is for a two-year term. They will be sworn in at the July Town Council meeting.

Senator Carper Announces an Additional $10 million in Federal Funding for Bay Beach Restoration and Improvement
The funding, secured by Sen. Carper through Congressionally Directed Spending, will support the restoration of 29 miles of beaches and the development of storm protection systems, including dunes, aimed at safeguarding the communities along the bay. These dune structures safeguard our precious habitat and the inland farmland.
The Town of Slaughter Beach thanks Senator Carper and his staff for their constant vigilance and support of our Bay Beaches and especially Slaughter Beach.

Mayors from every coastal town in the State of Delaware wrote to Governor John Carney requesting assistance in moving the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control closer to a final agreement on managing beach nourishment along the coast with new funding from the federal government in place. Red Knot Festival At Slaughter Beach May 25th.
This year’s upcoming Red Knot Fest will be hosted by Upstream Alliance, in partnership with American Littoral Society, Delaware Audubon, Delaware Nature Society, Delaware Ornithological Society, Dupont Nature Center, and the town of Slaughter Beach. Red Knot Fest is a family-friendly festival aimed at promoting the conservation of migratory shorebirds, such as the red knot. Attendees can look forward to engaging activities like horseshoe crab tagging, beach seining, t-shirt making, and birding field trips!
